I have spent months tracing the path of my stories for this memoir. It occurred to me that for different reasons, the beginning is rooted in more than one event. While drawing the memoir’s first storyboard, I wrote this reflection in the margins. Now more than ever I am seeing that the story is not only the words that I share, but the story is also how I gather and arrange those words. I am overwhelmed by the work ahead, but I finally feel like the path slowly illuminating in my writing process is the authentic way forward with this book.
I am writing a memoir about the journeys of being and becoming a mother. I am sharing some parts of the discovery process in Notes on a Memoir. Every week, I also write about something learned or shared as a mother in Wednesday’s Bloom: Textual Portraits of a New Mommy.
